CREW Statement in Support of the Boycott Amazon Campaign
In May 2024, workers at Amazon’s DXT4 warehouse in Laval exercised their right to freedom of association and formed the first Amazon union in Canada in response to the unsustainable and unsafe working conditions which are the norm at Amazon. This unionization campaign quickly spread to other facilities across Quebec. The successful unionization of DXT4 was the result of a bravely fought, years-long campaign led by the Immigrant Workers Center and the Conseil des Syndicats Nationaux (CSN).
On January 22nd, 2025, Amazon abruptly announced its decision to close all of its Quebec facilities in the coming months, threatening the livelihood of over 4500 workers. These closures come after Amazon consistently refused to engage in good-faith negotiations with the DXT4 workers for their first collective agreement. Despite Amazon’s claims to the contrary, these closures are a blatant act of retaliation taken against workers for unionizing, and are intended to have a chilling effect on organizing efforts across Amazon’s global workforce.
At our General Assembly on January 30th 2025, CREW unanimously voted on a motion to endorse the “Here, We Boycott Amazon” campaign. We call on our members to participate in the boycott of Amazon’s services and products, notably by cancelling any Amazon or Amazon Prime accounts.
We unequivocally support the right for workers everywhere to form a union, and to have the opportunity to bargain collectively without their employers simply deciding to close up shop. CREW stands in solidarity with all of the workers affected by the closures, and join you in your struggle to hold Amazon accountable for its union-busting.
