Back to Work:

Frequently Asked Questions

On March 20, CREW ended a seven-day strike with the ratification of our new collective agreement. This document sets our new working conditions moving forward, with important improvements to our job security, our wages, and our contractual protections.

How is my contract affected by the back to work agreement?

Our contracts resume, but our pay for the period March 9 to 22 (paycheque issued on April 3) will be reduced by 70%, accounting for 7 of the 10 working days in the period spent on strike. Your workload must be reduced accordingly. If you have sufficient hours to complete the tasks assigned in your existing contract, then you are responsible for those tasks for the remainder of your adjusted contract hours. You are not responsible for the tasks once you have fulfilled the adjusted hours of your contract.

What do I do if my adjusted hours aren’t enough to complete the work remaining in my contract?

Your contract supervisor must adjust your workload according to the new number of hours in your contract. If you won’t have enough hours to complete your remaining tasks, do not continue working past your adjusted hours. If you would like to complete these additional tasks, communicate this to your contract supervisor as soon as possible, and they can request a new contract to allocate the required hours. If you aren’t sure how to have this conversation with your supervisor, or need support in a meeting, please email us at hello@crew-csn.com.

How do I know how many hours remain on my contract?

We’ve created a form that calculates your adjusted workload after the strike. After you fill it out, we’ll tell you your new number of contract hours as soon as possible. Your supervisor is also responsible for knowing and respecting this new workload.

What happens to the labs, tutorials, and conferences that were cancelled during the strike?

Labs, tutorials, and conferences that were cancelled during the strike will not be rescheduled.

What if I completed all my contract hours before the strike? Will I still get paid for the hours I’ve already completed?

If you completed your contract hours before the strike, but had not been paid for all of those hours, please reach out to grievance@crew-csn.com
